چکیده

This article introduces and discusses from a philosophical point of view the nascent field of neuroeconomics, which is the study of neural mechanisms involved in decision-making and their economic significance. Following a survey of the ways in which decision-making is usually construed in philosophy, economics and psychology, I review many important findings in neuroeconomics to show that they suggest a revised picture of decision-making and ourselves as choosing agents. Finally, I outline a neuroeconomic account of irrationality. 1. The Rational Animal In Philosophy, Economics and Psychology Human life is one long decision tree. (Sterelny) Rational agents display their rationality mainly by making decisions. Some decisions are basic (turn left or turn right), other ones concern more crucial issues (“to be or not to be”). Even abstinence is decision, as thinkers like William James or JeanPaul Sartre once pointed out. Games people play—toward an enactive view of cooperation in social neuroscience

The field of social neuroscience has made considerable progress in unraveling the neural correlates of human cooperation by making use of brain imaging methods. Within this field, neuroeconomic research has drawn on paradigms from experimental economics, such as the Prisoner's Dilemma (PD) and the Trust Game. These paradigms capture the topic of conflict in cooperation, while focusing strongly ...

Assessment of distance-based multi-attribute group decision-making methods from a maintenance strategy perspective

Maintenance has been acknowledged by industrial management as a significant influencing factor of plant performance. Effective plant maintenance can be realized by developing a proper maintenance strategy. However, selecting an appropriate maintenance strategy is difficult because maintenance is a non-repetitive task such as production activity. Maintenance also does not leave a consistent trac...

The Use of Neuroeconomic Games to Examine Social Decision Making in Child and Adolescent

Neuroeconomics is a new, interdisciplinary field in which economics, psychology, computational science, and neuroscience converge to allow for examinations of the neural basis of reward-related decision making in social and nonsocial contexts. The aims of this paper are, first, to discuss recent advances in the use of neuroeconomic games to examine social decision making in children and adolesc...

Neuroeconomics: an overview from an economic perspective.

Until now, economic theory has not systematically integrated the influence of emotions on decision-making. Since evidence from neuroscience suggests that decision-making as hypothesized in economic theory depends on prior emotional processing, interdisciplinary research under the label of "neuroeconomics" arose. The key idea of this approach is to employ recent neuroscientific methods in order ...
